WHAT IS FOURSQUARE?

The Foursquare Church--officially the International Church of the Foursquare Gospel--was founded in Los Angeles, California, by Aimee Semple McPherson in 1923. Amid the revival days of the early 1900's, this fellowship of believers was born, determined to proclaim the solid scriptural core of Pentecostal renewal, avoiding the extremes of fanaticism on one hand and materialism on the other.

God, in His grace, has allowed the church to grow from the one local fellowship to more than 2000 churches in the United States and Canada. Today, the number of members and adherents in the Foursquare Church worldwide now stands at more than 4 million worshiping in more than 37 thousand churches and meeting places in 142 countries. At the end of the reporting year, there were 52,193 Foursquare ministers and workers. These numbers are fast increasing.

We have no desire to compete or compare. We rejoice for every body of believers which lifts the name of Jesus Christ. The Foursquare Church is a member of the National Association of Evangelicals (NAE) and as a Pentecostal Church is affiliated with the Pentecostal-Charismatic Churches of North America (PCCNA) and the Pentecostal World Conference.

The term "Foursquare" stands for the four-fold ministry of Jesus Christ as the Savior (Romans 10:9), Baptizer with the Holy Spirit (Luke 3:16), Healer ( 1 Peter 2:24) and coming King (Acts 1:11).

Our Doctrinal Beliefs:

The Bible -We believe the Bible is God-inspired.

(2 Timothy 3:16,17)

The Eternal Godhead-We believe God is Triune: Father, Son and Holy Spirit (2 Corinthians 13:14).

Sin -We believe that man was created in the image of God, but that by voluntary disobedience he fell from innocence and purity.

(Romans 5:12)

Salvation-We believe that Christ died for us, as sinners, and it is through faith (believing and trusting) in Jesus that our broken relationship with God is mended.

(John 3:16; Romans 5:8)

The New Birth-We believe that the change which takes place in the heart and life at conversion is a very real one.

(2 Corinthians 5:17; Galatians 2:20)

Daily Christian Living-We believe that it is the will of God that follow Christ, not only with our heart, but with our conduct, growing constantly in the faith.

(Hebrews 6:1)

Water Baptism and Communion -We believe that baptism is public declaration of your choice to follow Jesus (Matt. 28:19). We believe that Communion is the symbolic use of the bread and juice of the vine to remember Christ's death, sacrifice and new life that we have in Him.

(1 Corinthians 11:24, 25)

Baptism with the Holy Spirit-We believe  that the Baptism of the Holy Spirit gives the believer the ability to fulfill their mission and purpose on earth; and that this baptism can happen the same way it did in the Bible.

(Acts 2:4)

The Spirit-Filled Life-We believe that God wants us to walk in an awareness of him in every area of our lives.

(Ephesians 4:30-32)

Spiritual Gifts and Abilities -We believe that the Holy Spirit has gifts to give each of us; and that our lives will naturally produce characteristics of God.

(1 Corinthians 12:1-11; Galatians 5:22)

Moderation-We believe that following Jesus should never lead into extremes or fanaticism.

(Philippians 4:5)

Divine Healing-We believe that divine healing is the power of Christ to heal the physically sick in answer to the prayer of faith.

(James 5:14-16)

The Second Coming of Christ-We believe that Jesus is coming back one day.

(1 Thessalonians 4:16, 17).

Church Relationship-We believe it is our duty to identify ourselves with the visible, gathering Body of Christ.

(Acts 16:5; Hebrews 10:25).

Civil Government-We believe that rulers should be upheld in prayer at all times, and laws should be followed except in things opposed to God's law.

(Romans 13:1-5)

The Final Judgement -We believe that all will stand some day before the judgement of God, and his judgement is just and final.

(2 Corinthians 5:10)

Heaven-We believe that heaven is the amazing, eternal home of all followers of Jesus.

(John 14:1-3; Revelation 7:15-17)

Hell-We believe that hell is a real place of eternal torment for all who reject Christ as the Savior.

(Revelation 20:10,15)

Evangelism -We believe that leading others into a relationship with Jesus is the primary responsibility of every Christian.

(James 5:20)

Money, Tithes and Offerings-We believe that God desires us to support and spread of His message is by giving and supporting ministries financially.

(Malachi 3:10; 2 Corinthians 9:7)
